Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
cop's wife
I had an affair with a married woman that happens to be married to a prominent police officer in my area (he is a huge jerk btw). She didn't tell me she was married to a cop as I found out on my own, but when I did I thought it would be fun to tape our ''escapades''. Some friends convinced me it would be funny to mail the tape to his co-workers as it would humiliate him. I did and now a detective is wanting to talk to me. I told him I have nothing to say and wanted a lawyer and he left. Is what I did illegal or is the detective just trying to scare me as a favor to his cop buddy? Also people are telling me to skip town as even if what I did was legal, the cops are gonna put a target on my back if it means pulling me over and making up phony charges down the road.

Re: cop's wife
After what you did to him for fun, calling the police officer "a huge jerk" strikes me as the pot calling the kettle black.
If you made the tape without the wife's knowledge then you may have committed a crime. Whether you did or not is hard to say based upon these limited facts. If it was a crime, the victim was the wife and not the husband.
Sending the tape to the officer's colleagues was probably not a crime, but under some circumstances it could have been. Even if it wasn't a crime, it may be grounds for a restraining order against you.
