Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Court Appointed Lawyer not Satisfactory

I have been appointed a lawyer by the court to fight a drug sales case. My lawyer is not responsive, has not returned any phone calls, or ever met with me during the entire course of this case. The lawyer actually seems to be avoiding me even in court when there is an opportunity to talk to him. Now I am about to start trial and the lawyer has not even heard my side of the story. This lawyer is not receptive to any questions that are being asked of him and I am scared because trial will have a direct impact on my life. This lawyer is a state appointed due to a conflict of interest with crimee. Can I address the judge or someone to let them know that this lawyer is not working with me in my own defense?

Re: Court Appointed Lawyer not Satisfactory

Yes, you can address the court about this issue. The court might decide to hold a whole hearing on this matter.

Alternatively, you might explore the idea of retaining a private lawyer. The best bet, generally.
