Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

I went to court with my daughter a couple of days ago on a child custody case. Her x boyfriend and i do not get along. He has another girlfriend that has harressed my daughter for over 3 years. she was there with hin at court. It made me angry to see her and as i was leaving i made a comment to my daughters x boyfriend and it was no treats made to him.This made his girlfriend angry and sent a comment to me and i snapped and went to her and put my finger on her face and told her that she better be glad that shes in a court room. She then begin to hit me and she yelled out assault so the cops came and handcuffed me and took me a back room to book me. I explained what happend to an officer and he cited me out. iam 52 and shes about 27. this will be my first assault charge. my question is what do you think will happen to me. I was told by an officer i can get a year in jail.

"Explaining what happened" to an officer was a real bad idea. Next time a cop wants to talk to you, say nothing at all. Now you'll need to hire a lawyer to go to court with you.
