You would be really foolish to plead guilty to a serious criminal charge like petty theft without first consulting a lawyer. Please feel free to call me anytime to talk about your case.

You should always contact an attorney for a free consultation. Petty Theft (although has the word "Petty" in it) isn't petty at all. It has possible immigration consequences as well as possible jail time.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call me for a free consultation.

I don't know what area you are in, but you should contact a qualified attorney in or near your area. Petty theft is considered a crime of "moral turpitude" and many places will NOT hire anyone with such a conviction. Therefore attempt to get the charge lowered to a non-theft offense like trespassing (602 j pc). Or diversion, if that is available in your area. Although some courts are relaxed about letting people plead guilty on criminal charges, others are more cautious. You're facing a theft offense - it can carry potential jail time, probation, immigration issues... not to mention severely impacting your ability to find work.

It's best you have representation to see what can be done to protect your rights.

The judge did you a favor by suggesting you get a lawyer. Take advantage of this opportunity to find a local criminal defense attorney that routinely practices in the court where your case will be heard.
