Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

crimes on sovereign land

I was at an indian casino, on sovereign land in calif. when i went to my car i saw the vehicle next to me had made a dent. I got mad and keyed that car. It was on camera. I got a letter from a detective in that county stating I was to call him or felony vandalism would be charged and a warrant issued. Do they have jurisdiction on sovereign land and do I need to hire a lawyer ?

They do have jurisdiction indeed. That said, you should not be talking to a detective yourself to make his job easy by fessing up or providing any incriminating information. This should be handled by a lawyer. Hiring one early might result in dismissal of the charges or, at least, reduction of charges to a misdemeanor. I would not attempt doing this myself under any circumstances.
