i have no criminal background until i was with someone who got caught stealing what is the worst that could happen to me?

Being CONVICTED. If you are convicted of a theft offense, jobs in the future will be very hard to come by. I would tell you that it is in your best interest to get a lawyer to attempt to get the charge dropped or changed to a NON-THEFT RELATED offense. I wish you well.................. David Wallin
Well it depends what you were caught stealing. If its worth less than $400 its a year in jail. If its a felony you could be sent to state prison. You should not be worrying about what is the worst thing that can happen to you. With your record the "worst" thing is unlikely to happen. Your lawyer knows the court and the judge and can probably tell you what is likely to happen. You should talk to your lawyer and find out if diversion or some other means of keeping you out of the criminal system is available in your county,
