Re: criminal defense
You are looking at a misdemeanor with maximum penalty of 1 year in county jail plus restitution plus fines. If this is your first offense dismissal through what is called diversion might be possible. Get a good lawyer to do everything possible to avoid a theft conviction on your record.

Re: criminal defense
Good Afternoon,
Thefts in California can either be a misdemeanor or a felony, depending on the value of the goods that were taken. If the value of the goods is alleged to be $400 or less, the city will generally charge the theft as a misdemeanor. On the other hand, if the value of the goods are greater than $400, the city will likely charge the theft as a felony.
Under the California Penal Code, misdemeanors are punishable by imprisonment in local jail for up to one year and/or a fine. How much of the maximum penalty you are looking at depends on your criminal history and how well your attorney can negotiate with the city.
