Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Criminal Investigation

I was informed by a friend that I was being investigated and it was iniated by a previous employer. I was informed 21 days ago about this. I retained an attorney immediately and my attorney began making calls to the investigator.

The investigator seized some of my property and would not take to the attorney. Therefore, my attorney spoke with the investigator's boss. My attorney was informed that the investigation is still ongoing, there is no warrant for my arrest, and that I am in big trouble.

I was informed by my attorney to do not take the comment at heart because it is apart of their scare tactics.

Therefore, I would like to know how long can the investigation go on? Also, if the investigator does not have enough evidence to get a conviction or a warrant for my arrest from the judge, would he inform my attorney that the investigation is over?

I guess how would I know beside the investigator calling my attorney to arrange my surrender if the investigation is still on going, has ended, etc? The way I am living right now with the knowledge of an investigation is just not healthy and I am just ready to resume my normal life.

Thank you for your comments and assistance.

Re: Criminal Investigation

Since you already have a lawyer, he is the one you should be asking. He knows more about your case than we do, and he probably knows more about how local law enforcement works.
