Criminal law -- pressing charges
if you are successful with obtaining a judgment with the courts for over $30,000. in a fraud case and there was no defense as to the fraud. can criminal fraud charges be filed with the police dept.?

If fraud in question amounts to criminal conduct, regardless of whether defense was offered in the civil case, it can be prosecuted. Decision to prosecute will depend on how egregious the alleged conduct was rather than whether there was a defense. In a certain way, the fact that you have a civil judgment might make police/prosecution less willing to prosecute but it will not hurt to try.
