Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
criminal law question
I had a search warrant served on my home. Nothing was found. I paid a lawyer $17,000.00 and am now paying $2500.00 for seven months. $35,000 total. It has been 6 weeks and I have not been charged for any crime. Is there a time limit on the police charging me? If they do not charge me can I
get any of my money back from my attorney?

Re: criminal law question
Whether there is a time limit (and, if so, what it is) depends upon the charges you are facing. Some crimes have no limitations period. Most do, but the lengths of these periods can vary considerably. Assuming that there is a time limit on your case, the clock started ticking at the time of the offense, not the time of the search.
I would need to know what your contract with your attorney says before I could answer your question about getting some of your money back.
