It is a hearing on a motion by the defense attorney for the court to strike (i.e. not consider) one or more "strike" priors so that the defendant maximum exposure is reduced. For instance, in a case charged as a third strike the defendant faces 25 to life. If the court strikes one of the strike for purposes of sentencing, the maximum time the defendant could receive is greatly reduced, but still double the normal sentence for the crime charged.
