It depends if you have counsel or not. If you have counsel he can generally attempt to get an "offer" from the DA. If you do not, the DA will generally try to make you plea that day.

Thank you for your question to law guru. A readiness conference is usually for, depending on what stage the case is at, both parties to announce ready or not ready for a more important hearing, usually a trial or a preliminary hearing. In real life, this is where both sides make sure that they have discovery exchanged or provided, and any plea bargain negotiations may take place at this appearance also.
