I threw a cigarette out of my car window and was pulled over. Now I have to go to court. What do I do?

It depends whether you want to fight the citation. You can simply pay your fine to get it over with or you can take it to trial. If the cop does not show up for trial you will win.
Your first court date is called an arraignement where you will tell the judge what you want to do by pleading either not guilty, guilty or no contest.
