Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Criminal trial
Who selects the jury? Does it have to be the actual trial lawyer? Can an associate select? Do they hire another attorney who specializes in it?

Re: Criminal trial
Yes to all...could be the trial attorney, associate counsel or an expert attorney for jury selection, and/or a non-attorney jury selection expert to assist counsel.

Re: Criminal trial
Jury selection is a very important part of criminal representation and would normally be performed by the lead trial counsel, sometimes with the help of a jury consultant such as Jo-Ellan Dimitrius - known for picking "mothers of sons" in the O.J. Simpson case - and who wrote a book on the subject.
