crimminal charges
My cousin in being charged with having sex with a minor at the time he was told by the willing participant that she was 18 (my cousin is 20, and she is 17). He has a clean record, never been charged for anything. We would like to know the best way to approach this problem, without him serving time. Please help us.

Re: crimminal charges
Your cousin needs counsel ASAP...as stated, and IF offense is in California???defenses are available that only an attorney can investigate and present.
Re: crimminal charges
The best way to handle this is to hire a lawyer. This is a very serious problem with long term conseqeuences aside from jail time.
Re: crimminal charges
This is not the time for your "do-it-yourself" efforts, unfortunately. Statutory rape is serious business with repercussions beyond the issue of whether jail time will be involved. Get a good lawyer or, if you absolutely cannot afford one, let the public defender handle the matter.
