Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

crimminal charges

My cousin in being charged with having sex with a minor at the time he was told by the willing participant that she was 18 (my cousin is 20, and she is 17). He has a clean record, never been charged for anything. We would like to know the best way to approach this problem, without him serving time. Please help us.

Your cousin needs counsel ASAP...as stated, and IF offense is in California???defenses are available that only an attorney can investigate and present.

The best way to handle this is to hire a lawyer. This is a very serious problem with long term conseqeuences aside from jail time.

This is not the time for your "do-it-yourself" efforts, unfortunately. Statutory rape is serious business with repercussions beyond the issue of whether jail time will be involved. Get a good lawyer or, if you absolutely cannot afford one, let the public defender handle the matter.
