Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

My daughter had a19 yr old girlfriend ask her to pawn some gold that her grandfather had given her. My daughter found out later the girl was talked to by the police about the gold. It was stolen from the girls parents home. She said to my daughter that she told the police my daugher had no knowledge of it being stolen. I called the friend myself and asked her what was going on. She said she told the police my daughter did not know it was stolen. I thought I should take my daughter to the police station to alk to police but the girl said she gave the police her cell phone number. Come to find out she gave them her old cell phone number. I believe she did not want the police to call my daughter because she knew that she would tell the truth. Now several minths later my daughter has a 50k warrant for receiving known stolen property and burglary. She is going to college this fall to be a nurse. She works every single day and is no longer friends with this troubled girl. I am unsure what to do. I would like to go talk to the police myself and tell them about this girl and I know this is not the first time she had someone pawn gold claiming she had lost her id. What should we do?

You should get your daughter a lawyer. Don't let her talk to the police on her own, and don't talk to them yourself on her behalf. Even if she is innocent, you might say something that would make her appear guilty or otherwise give the prosecutor more ammunition to use against her.

Good luck.

I totally agree with the other attorney.. Contact a qualified criminal defense attorney in or near your area. Most criminal defense attorneys give FREE consultations as we do, so do so immediately. Make sure your daughter knows to NOT speak to law enforcement, under any circumstances. We have handled many cases just like your daughters and have been able to convince the prosecutor to dismiss many of them. If you desire to speak with me on the phone, I would be more than happy to answer all your questions at no cost, to give you further direction. I wish you and your daughter well...David Wallin
