Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

A few days ago I was assaulted while I was in our local casino. I had just used the ATM machine near the front of the casino when I was accosted by a man who proceeded to flip me off and verbally cuss me out. He then got in my face, I attempted to ignore him, but to no avail. I attempted to go around him but he blocked me and then he got me in a headlock. I struggled with him for a few seconds and was able to throw him off. He then took off and I was able to signal security who finally apprehended him. I was asked to fill out report, which I did. This is a brief statement of the events, but I feel like the casino failed to provide me with a safe and secure environment where I could enjoy myself without fear of being assaulted. My question is this, based on the bit of information I've provided do you, think I might have a legitimate reason to file a complaint against the casino?

What kind of complaint? Do you mean a lawsuit? That is not a criminal law question.

You are not arrested, not facing any charges. Contact a personal injury lawyer.

I doubt it. The casino is not an insurer for its patrons and does not have to prevent incidents like the one you describe. A further complication: most California casinos are on Indian reservations and thus subject to tribal law.

Depending upon additional facts, you might have a legitimate claim. But even if you do, it probably won't be for very much given the relatively minor nature of your fight.
