Do you have an inventory sheet from the police giving that amount of money on it? In theory you can (try yourself first and/or) have an attorney file a motion to return property ... in my experience, with only $ 295, it may be best to let it go.
A personal decision, of course. Each person has to do what is right for them. At this moment, and if it were me, I would focus on and be grateful nothing has been filed. Also, nothing may have been filed *yet*. On misdemeanors, it is one year in which the D.A.'s office has to decide, and on many felonies it is 3 years. Good luck!
