Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Detective investigating me

I'm being investigated by a detective who is trying to build a case against me. This cop has contacted a friend and not only asked questions, but also showed this person my rap sheet, and revealed evidence this cop has against me. Can this cop share this kind of information? Can this be viewed as unfairly influencing a potential witness if this is an issue that ends up going to trial?

Re: Detective investigating me

You are partially fortunate in that you know what might be coming. Have arrangements for an attorney and bondsperson in advance. Say nothing to the cops except that you want a lawyer. Never consent to a search.

If the crime is serious enough, you might want to consider relocating out of state for a while.

To answer your question, unfortunately, the cops can do almost anything. They can lie, cheat and sometimes even steal.

You need to consult a lawyer to ascertain what your options are at this point. It could be that your best bet is to have a lawyer attempt to intervene at this stage of investigation. Difficult to advise you without knowing more facts.
