Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Driving on FTA (not a dui suspension) Suspended Licence, CA
Good Afternoon.
I was recently pulled over and cited for driving on a suspended licence.I knew the licence was suspended. My licence was suspended for a failure to appear on a speeding ticket. I was not arrested and my car was impounded. I have since paid bail on the failure to appear and had my license re-instated. Prior to this problem, I have a clean driving record and no criminal record of any kind.
What is the likely penalty for this offense? Should I try to get a public defender (I cannot afford a lawyer)? Will I have to go to jail? I am very worried...
Thanks for your help!
Tommy

I think the public defender should be able to get you a plea bargain or dismissed based on the foregoing circumstances. However, without specific knowledge of the facts of your case, it is not possible to render an opinion on the situation. However, most people who are convicted of driving on a suspended license will not go to jail for a first offense. Good Luck.
