Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

driving w/expired license

I was pulled over on the highway. I gave the peace officer false information about who I was becuse my license had expired three years ago. I would like to do the right thing and turn myself in for doing this. Can you inform me of what the consequences might be?(jail time, fine, ect.) Please respond asap. Thank you.

Re: driving w/expired license

First you have just confessed to the commission to a crime to the entire internet world.

The penalty is imprisonment in state prison ( 16 months, 2 years or 3 years) and/or a fine up to $10,000.00, or both imprisonment and a fine. Usually in a case such this, it is charged as a misdemeanor in which case the sentence is a maximum of 1 year in county jail and/or a fine or both a fine and a jail sentence.

Due to the potential seriousness of this matter you should hire an attorney.
