Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

can I drop charges after arraignment?

I am 14 and had sex with a 19 year old guy.my mom pressed charges and we now want to drop them because me and the guy are going to get married but the arraignment has passed.I was wondering if we could drop the charges if we talk to the detective and who do we talk to about dropping the charges if we can?

Re: can I drop charges after arraignment?

It is the state of California that is pressing the charges against him not your mother. Only the district attorney can dismiss the charges.

If he is charged with unlawful sex, commonly referred to as statutory rape, is having sex with a female who is not the man's wife. It would seem that marrying him would negate the charge. The DA may wish to continue with the charges since you were not married at the time the sex occurred. However, you are planning to get married so you have nothing to lose by getting married.
