drug possesion
If someone were to borrow a vehicle for transportation only,
and get stopped for a traffic violation which led to the
vehicle being searched,whereas a minute amount of a controlled
substance was found in the garbage in the trunk,unknown to the driver, would they be considerd liable?

Yes, the person borrowing the car is frequently accused and convicted of drug possession. It's absolutely amazing how many times this defense is raised. However, each case turns on the facts. You should not assume you should plead guuilty and not defend the case. Seek the advice of counsel if you're charged with drug possession.
