Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Drug Rehabilitation for a L.A. inmate

My friend has been in L.A. County jail since Nov.2005 on two seperate cases relating to drugs. He is a 46 year old white male who wants to go to drug rehabilitation. His attorney just keeps getting continuances or offers him 8 years at half or 4 years at half. Here is his history:

1979 arrested for Burglry ( after drinking he walked into a house and told occupants to give him their cigarretts.

1981 released

1982 off parole

15 years later

1997 arrested for stolen property (computer) and possession of meth.

1998-2000 Calipatria state prison

2001 off parole

#1 2004 arrested April 11 for stolen property (friends bike) and under the influence of meth.

18 months later

#2 2005- arrested and released in August for FURNISHING but not charged

#3 2005 arrested and released in Sept for possession of .06 meth but not charged.

November 2005 taken in custody and charged with # 1 & 2

Charges for # 1 were dropped and in January 2006 in April they combined cases # 2 & 3 and raised his bail from $20,000 to $120.000. In both cases he was not found with the drugs on his person.

Please help us find a way to get him help for his drug problem and a way to be released to a different County

Re: Drug Rehabilitation for a L.A. inmate

You should contact another attorney in that area and review the facts of his case. You should get a copy of the police report and the complaint filed against him.
