Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

drug use

Hi,

My 18yr. old brother is under the influence of drugs. One night he got out of control, started throwing things around and threatened to kill the family. I called the police and he was taken for the night and charged for making ''Terrorist Threats'' (PC 422). I know he won't go through with something like that, but the reason I did it was to get him some help. Is this a good way to help him? Will he get locked up and if so, will they help him there? Will this cost any money for me/him? Should I just drop the charges and look somewhere else?

Thanks,

Aurelio

Re: drug use

Mr. Stone is correct, only your brother can do something about his problem. Threats made under the influence drugs should be taken seriously. Your call to the police was probably the right call in your situation.

Re: drug use

No, having your brother arrested will not "help" him. Yes, he will be locked up. No, "they" will not "help" him. Yes, this will cost lots of money and stress for all concerned. No, you will not be able to "drop the charges."
