my name is--name removed--and im a law student in israel im doing an esingment which contains research on the right to use drugs in medical treatment i would like to ask about the situation in the u.s in this area .... thanks

Go to Findlaw.com and look at California Health & Saftey Code and look at section 11362.5 and the surrounding statutes. That is the California Medical Marijuana Law. You can also look at (from the Findlaw site) People v. Mower that is a case that explained that the medical marijuana law is not a bar from prosecution, rather it is an affirmative defense to a possession of marijuana charge. You may also want to look at the NORML website at www.norml.org, which is the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. That site has a lot of great information about medical marijuana and marijuana laws in general.
