Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

drunk in public

I was charged with PC647(f) ''drunk in public'' on 7-20-08 in San Bernardino, CA at a Motel 6. I was only under the influence of marijuana. I had been smoking constantly for an extended period and decided to head back to my room at around 8:00am. However I was stopped by police officers (responding to a call of a separate party harassing Motel 6 managers) shortly after exiting my friend's room. After some questioning I was placed under arrest. Some marijuana was found on my person but was thrown away by the officers (no possession charge). I was taken to a local jail and contained for about eight hours, then released with a court date set for 9-18-08.

Should I plead ''no contest'' and attempt for an expungement later on? Or should I hire a lawyer and fight the charge?

You should always hire a lawyer, if you can. If convicted, these charges could have great affect or your future.

Get an Attorney...647f public intoxication requires more that merely being high...(MJ intox is not included in H&S 11550 under the influence/use of a controlled substance) Also there could be some illegal detention issues here????
