Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

early release

Is there such a thing as a ''county lid'' when you are serving jail time in county. This is in los angeles county. I heard it was 7 months of your sentence or less. is that true. So if you were given a 365 day sentance and have credit for 176 days already shouldn't you be out soon?

Re: early release

An inmate in the Los Angeles county jail can expect to serve no more than 2/3 of the sentence if he/she is given credit for what is called good time/work time. Such credit is normally given to anyone who essentially does not cause problems and behaves by the rules.

In LA, inmates are often released much earlier because of the chronic overcrowding. Someone with 176 days credit should be released very soon unless the sentencing judge wrote "no early release" on the sentencing papers. In any case, the person you are writing about should do no more than 2/3 of the remaining sentence, which is 365 - 176.
