Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
E-mail harassment / hate mail
Are there any criminal laws that would prohibit one man to send another man a hateful, swear-word ridden, insulting e-mail? What about if this is repeated? Caveat: the communication is not published to any other 3rd party.

Re: E-mail harassment / hate mail
It depends upon what the e-mail actually says. If there is a threat of violence or harm, it could be a violation of Penal Code Section 422, Criminal Threats. Penal Code 422 can be a felony that results in a lengthy prison sentence.
