Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Does this = Embezzlement?
To make a long story short.....My boyfriend who has never kept his money in a bank and has been saving this money for approximately 15 years (A very large sum) and then ironically was arrested on drug charges, but they did not find his money. This money was from legal employment over a 15 year period....I suggested that he let my ex-inlaws keep it in their safe. They faked a burglary ...and falsely reported it and I know this as I walked up as my ex-inlaws were breaking a window to make it look like a burglary to the local police, not only did this happen but I left a recorder at their home and they were talking about it on this tape. This was also investigated by a Private Investigator that we hired. The investigator talked with the husband and the wife on separate occasions and they both gave him different stories......What can I do? I am devistated about this and this was every dime he had saved for the past 15 years. Can you please point me in the right direction, It has been 21/2 years and our time is running out. Can they be prosecuted?

You need to stop screwing around with this. What is the status on the drug charges? You also need to immediately file a civil complaint to recover the money from your ex-in-laws. Do they own their home, or rent?
I just got back from vacation. That's what has taken me so long to answer.

Your boyfriend would have a civil cause of action for conversion which if successful would allow him to get a judgment in the amount of the stolen money plus punitive damages. Please call me directly at (619) 222-3504.
