Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
My ex-husband is out on parole after serviing time for a first time offense for vehicular manslaughter (non-drug/achohol related). I've heard he wants to go to one of the U.S. Territories to vacation (I believe Puerto Rico) without getting a Travel Pass from his parole officer. I'm concerned that although you don't need a passport to go to Puerto Rico, through his CA Identification card the authorities will be alerted, and I don't want that to happen because my children will get hurt if there father is taken to jail again. So my question is, does the state of CA police authorities get notified automatically by running his ID card? I know that this is the case with passports, but not sure about a regular ID card. Thank you in advance.

The smart answer is to get permission from the Parole Officer. If your husband wishes to remain out of jail, he'd better quickly establish a working relationship with his Parole Officer, not only on this issue, but in all areas in which the Parole Officer has authority. Otherwise, he is gambling with his, and his family's future
