Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Expungements and sealing records
I was convicted of 242 pc. I am appling for a police officer position. Is it possible to close those records under 1203.45 of the penal code? or is it possible to seal the record so that i do not have to disclose the information.

Expunging Records Doesn't Always Work
Be certain to read the code section in its entirety. The expungement does not relieve anyone of having to disclose the convictionwhen they are applying to be a police officer. The same is true for applicants for the Lotteryvendors. This is important because as a practical matter, the Police Department willend up finding out.
They might forgive you for a little 242 (assumingthat it was "little" and a while in the past)but they will never forgive you for attemptingto conceal the matter or lying about it.
Heck, it seems to me that having a prior Battery charge might be considered a "qualification" for a lot of police departments.
