If a juvenile has succesful completed probaiton related to a felony charge is the record automatically sealed when they turn 18. The juvneile in question turned 18 on March 31, 2003 and had his probaiton terminated on June 21, 2002. If records are not automatically sealed, what is the process to have them closed?

An expungment of juvenile records does not automatically happen at the end of probation and when he turns 18. A felony matter needs to be brought down to a misdemeanor first. Please contact us at 310/277-1707 to fully discuss.

Re: ''expunging juvenile records''

The juvenile record is not automatically sealed upon the juvenile reaching age 18 and completing probation. In addition to having the record sealed you should determine whether the conviction can be reduced to a misdemeanor under the provisions of penal code section 17. The probation department can advise you regarding sealing these records.

You should consider discussing the matter with an attorney as the probation department may not fully advise you of your rights.
