There are two kinds of "expungements." For misdemeanors, when you successfully complete probation there is Penal Code Section 1203.4 which is a form available at the courthouse which you file with a filing fee of $60. If you did not successfully complete probation, see a lawyer for help. For felonies, there is a "certificate of pardon and rehabilitation" that you can apply for if it has been five years since your parole ended and you have not been in any more trouble since then. You should get legal help for this one. These types of "expungements" are good for not having to tell potential employers about your case(s). They do not work for some purposes such as government jobs or if you later face new criminal charges.
