Re: extradition

This topic is too complex for a simple explanation here. Suffice it to say that your friend should consult a criminal defense lawyer about this, and perhaps also a bail bond firm. Sometimes the jurisdiction that would like the person back on a warrant, makes a decision that it's not worth it to them to pay for extradition (including travel) expenses. That typically would be for more minor crimes, such as misdemeanors. A person can waive the right to challenge extradition in the asylum state's court. If the person does not waive, they may be detained up to 30 days pending a governor's rendition warrant; but this can be extended up to an additional 60 days. Minn Stat Section 629.15, 629.17.
