Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Im facing criminal charges of violation of restraining order (non violent, misdemeanor), felony possession of controlled substance, and misdemeanor under the influence. I have expunged priors from about 5 years ago for drugs and one other violation of a restraining order. My court proceedings are at the point where last appearance the DA made an offer of 8 months. I don't feel like my public defender is truly doing everything to give me the best representation I should get and feel like 8 months is way too long. Should I do everything I possibly can to hire a private attorney and have someone who will represent me 110%, or would it be a waste of money? Is l there truly any chance a private attorney would be able to get me a lot more reasonable sentence?
