Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
i was falsely accused of grabbing another member at the gym steam room. i went to grab my locker key which was by another members foot who was laying down on his back. when i grabbed my key, it alarmed him and he began yelling at me and told the front desk that i grabbed him inappropriately. the front desk said it was hearsay but still needed to be documented. i was told i could leave. the accuser continued to yell at me and even grabbed me by my shirt collar to wear the employees had to grab his hand. three weeks later i got a call from a detective asking for my side and asked why i left instead of talking to the police. i told him i didnt know police were being phoned and he said i would be notified if anything. what should i do to protect myself? is this a possible court case? there were not any other witnesses.

Grabbing members is often viewed very seriously by the courts. Hope nothing bad happens. Don't speak to the police again and don't go to the police station. Keep the numbers of an attorney and a bail bond person with you.

This doesn't sound like a case that would go anywhere, but I'd suggest you make no further statements about this. It may be worth it to sit down with a local attorney to discuss it more thoroughly just in case. Most attorneys offer a free consultation. This isn't a situation where I think you need to pay anyone a retainer at this point, so don't fall for scare tactics to get you to sign up.
