Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

felony theft (2 counts)

I have not been able to retain my lawyer for my court date today due to my finances are tied up for a few more days. Can I ask for more time to retain my lawyer or will they reman my bail? I am firing my public defender and withdrawing my plea from no contest to not guilty. I am innocent of all charges. I have already given a no-contest plea only because i was remanded for being late to court and was forced to take a plea in order to get out and take care of my family.

Thank you for your question, and for the opportunity to both help and advise you further.

The true answer to that depends on the temperament of the judge you're in front of, but in most cases, retaining a lawyer helps out you, and helps out the court, and is generally considered "good cause" for a continuance.

I hope this helps, but if you have additional information, have other questions, or would like legal representation, please feel free to email me directly at [email protected]. It's my pleasure to help you in any way that I can, and thanks again.
