Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Fired for being arrested

Can I be fired for a non-related work arrest? The arrest was for burglary and forgery, had nothing to do with my job and I was only in jail for 24 hours. I missed one day of work. The detectives who arrested me called my HR department and now I need to see the HR director with my supervisor. Please help, I am sick about this.
