Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

forged rental receipts by welfare applicant

A person and her children are living in a house that I own. I am not charging them rent and her boyfriend has fixed the plumbing. She told me that she had applied for MediCal and food stamps and that she forged my name on some rental receipts. She made it appear that she was paying $550./mo. rent . What kind of trouble can I get in, if any?

Certainly your tenant�s actions amount to welfare fraud. Whether you could be charged with a crime as well could be possible, but probably unlikely unless you do nothing to stop the fraud now that you have knowledge of it. You should consult a lawyer ASAP concerning this matter.
