A friend was arrested. The DA is offering probation if he pleads 'no contest'. Is that the same as admitting guilt?

A no contest plea is saying "I'm not admitting I did it, but I'm not going to fight the charges."
The court treats it just like a guilty plea and finds the defendant guilty.
The only difference is that a no contest plea to a misdemeanor can't be used against you later in a civil suit.
