Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
I have a friend who is incarcerated and received a letter from "tom" stating that when he gets out he is going after him and get him to violate his parole so he will go back to prison. The only return address is a p.o. box. Has this tom person committed a crime and if so, how can charges be filed with just a p.o. box? thank you, Laurie.

Your friend might contact law enforcement (or even the warden). If the letter from "tom" was more specific, then there might be a crime involved. If it's vague, stating "tom" was "going after" your friend, I'm not sure a crime was committed. If your friend has financial resources, an investigator could learn the identity of the post office box holder.
