Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

I have a friend in jail fighting a three strikes case, he wants to file a writ and he is not sure how to do it or what one looks like. He would like a copy of a writ to go by. how do I do help him get that information? He mentioned people vs. reed?

He must file it first in the trial court. There is no exact format per se but it should have the factual allegations in a declaration. Then have a points and authorities with the request for the writ. The moving papers should state that he is seeking a writ (specify type) and by what authority. If the court has not decided anything then it will be difficult to get any type of writ relief in criminal.
