Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

A friend of mine was doing a job in Amador county, Ca. , and took something off the job. He took the item to the recyclers in Sacramento, Ca. The item he took was identified as being the one that was taken off the job. My friend was Arrested in Sacramento, but the case is being tried in Eldorado County where he is on probation. Is it legal to try his case in Eldorado county if the crime was committed Amador county and he was arrested in Sacramento County?

If he's being prosecuted for the crime, then the case belongs in the county where the crime was committed. But that may not be what's happening. It sounds like he's accused of violating his probation. That type of proceeding belongs in the court which made the probation order.
