Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
A friend of mine was pulled over by the police after leaving my house for "his turn signal going off halfway thru the turn". The officers...while talking to him during the stop...were asking him questions regarding me...and told him that I had been arrested for utility theft and possession of narcotics. They also made a comment to him about me "smoking the dope". Are they breaking any laws by doing this? This is in Torrance, CA The Possession charges were fabricated and dropped when I contested it.

The Police are usually free to ask any questions they want following a lawful stop. They're obviously on to you for whatever reasons they have. Hope your friend was cooperative but said nothing to incriminate you...Good luck.
