Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
A FRIENDS SISTER ASKED US TO REPO THE TRUCK (SHE BOUGHT HIM )FROM A FRIEND WHO TOOK IT WHEN HE WENT TO JAIL.)THE PERSON IS JUST A FRIEND OF HIS WHO SAW AN OPPERTUNITY TO COME UP WHILE HE IS IN JAIL. sHE STOLE THE TRUCK AND SOMEHOW ADDED HER NAME TO THE PINK SLIP AND GOT ALL THE LOCKS CHANGED AND IGNITION CHANGED. THE TRUE OWNER OF THE TRUCK IS OFFERING US A REWARD TO RECOVER THIS TRUCK AND WE KNOW ITS LOCATION. THE SISTER LIVES FAR AWAY AND CANT COME TO WHERE TTHIS HAPPPENED TO REPORT IT. POLICE HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED AND NO ACTION HAPPEDED. HOW DO WE GO ABOUT RECOVERING THIS VECHILE?>

The person claiming to be the true owner should file a civil lawsuit and seek an order granting possession of the truck while the case proceeds. The law takes a very dim view of people resorting to self-help when they feel they have been wronged. Given that the pink slip contains the name of the woman who now possesses the truck, there is a very good chance that someone who takes it will be charged with a serious crime.
Bear in mind that you probably don't have all the facts. The person who claims to be the true owner might not be. Your best bet may be to stay out of this.
