Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
General rules of probation
My son is on probation right now in California. He left California for New York without notifying his probation officer and plans to stay their for a unlimited amount of time. My question is can he get into trouble for doing this? Can his stepmother get in trouble for harboring him?(event though she doesn't know he is on probation)What are the general rules of probabtion?

Re: General rules of probation
Genrally probation does not allow the probationer to leave the state and often the county without consent of the probation officer. The charges for which he was convicted are also important. If the conviction is for a felony your son faces possible confinment in prison.
Depending on the circumstances the stepmother could be exposed to possible criminal charges for concealing a criminal.
