Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Me and my girlfriend were driving when some guy threatens me and I threaten him back then he decides that he's going to call the cops... I mean he threatened me also... I have no idea what kind of lies he told the cops but my girlfriend is the only witness and she knows exactly what was said and what happened. If we both threatened each other do we both get into trouble

Keep quiet in the face of any questioning and get a lawyer if things escalate.
