Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Do I have a good chance of beating this case?

While entering the court house to pay off a traffic fine, a sheriff questioned if I had a ''Leatherman'' in my purse, I was totally ''baffled'' after 3 times he then opened my side zipper and pulled out my keys and then a lighter, then stated he must have seen wrong, I then remembered the lighter also was a pocket knife and showed him. He then stated ''oh, well that's illegal'' and proceeded to put it back in my purse, I told him I didn't even want it then if it was illegal, and that I had no idea that it was a felony. I then left the lighter and the area into the revenue recovery dept. Then the other female sheriff who was witness to this escorts me upstairs and sites and releases me for ''possesion of a switchblade'' (misdemenor) However it was a lighter, and I do not want to have this on my record, do I have a case?

Thank you--

The answers to your questions depend on additional information you don't provide here. A "switchblade," for example, must have certain characteristics or it's not a switchblade. You should have a consultation with a criminal lawyer in your area. Most criminal lawyers give free consultations. If your case is in LA, feel free to give me a call for a free consultation.
