Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
grand theft property
I've been charged with grand theft property, stealing clothes from Macy's. I have a 3 yr joint suspention for petty theft and on probation. Does 16 months state sound right or can I get less time?

Re: grand theft property
The minimum sentence for grand theft under Penal Code 489 is 16 months in state prison. Other available sentences for grand theft are 24 and 36 months. You would have a much easier time of convincing the prosecutor to drop the charges down to a misdemeanor if you were not previously on probation. Be that as it may, you might still have a shot depending on the circumstances of your case and if you retain a private lawyer. Contact us if you are serious about representation.

Getting additional probation on your new case might be a tall order but it might be possible. You should find a good lawyer. Feel free to give me a call for a free consultation if you are looking for a lawyer in Southern California.
